2026 COMPETITIONS

We are all set for the Fleece Show/Competition and Sale!

Thank you to Andrew Schafer of Cedar Mesa Ranch for judging the fleeces this year.

Andrew received a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business from Fort Lewis College in 2014 and his master’s degree in Integrated Resource Management from Colorado State University in 2015. Andrew has had livestock going on 20 years now and is a first-generation rancher. With his wife, Kendra, they have raised cattle, sheep, goats, and chickens. Currently they have Navajo Churro sheep, finisher beef, and a small flock of laying hens.

FLEECES CAN BE DROPPED OFF STARTING AT 8:00 AM ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3RD

FIELD CONTESTS

Field Contests are open to both visitors and vendors interested in joining the fun.

The precise location will be announced as we get closer to the Festival

There are three different categories. They include:

SPINNING

  • SPEED SPINNING | BLINDFOLDED SPINNING | 2-PERSON SPINNING

  • NAVAJO SPINDLE SPINNING

  • DROP SPINDLE SPINNING

Contestants must bring their own spinning wheels, Navajo and/or drop spindles for the competition.

MAVWA provides bowls, blindfolds and commercial roving so everyone is using the same roving for spinning contests.

KNITTING

  • SPEED KNITTING

  • BLINDFOLDED KNITTING

Contestants must bring their own knitting needles and yarn.

CROCHETING

  • SPEED CROCHET

  • BLINDFOLDED CROCHET

Contestants must bring their own crochet hook and yarn.
