Rug Hooking with Yarn
with Laura Salamy
Have all kinds of yarn in your house? Leftovers from other projects? Trying to figure out what you can do with it? You can use it in rug hooking! In this class, we will:
• Discuss the history of rug hooking and where it is today, including its various forms;
• Learn how to prep our materials;
• Begin hooking a “mug rug,” a small table mat, or wall hanging; and
• Discuss the ways we can finish the piece when the hooking is done.
SKILL LEVEL: No experience is necessary; just come prepared to play with all the colors and textures!
WHAT TO BRING: Small pair of scissors.
If you have your own rug hooking/punch needle supplies, bring them and we'll evaluate them. Students can also contact instructor ahead of time to discuss items they may already have.
MATERIALS INCLUDED: Lots of yarn; woven fabric backing; examples of punch needle and other rug hooking art; all materials needed to get students' designs on backing fabric; resource materials; frames, hooks; lots of handouts; in short, everything needed for this class
