What Is Yarn Bomb Durango?

Yarn Bomb Durango is a community fiber arts project celebrating creativity, generosity, and the handmade spirit of the Mountain and Valley Fiber Arts Festival. Before and during the festival, handmade items will be displayed in approved locations around Durango to welcome visitors and bring color to the community. After the festival, these items will be removed, cleaned, and donated so they can continue serving a useful purpose.

This is a temporary, approved public art and donation project. All displays will be installed only in designated locations.

Want to Help?

There are several ways to take part. Whether you knit, crochet, weave, sew, or simply want to lend a hand, we would love to have you involved.

You Can:

  • Donate handmade items: Make warm, washable items that can be displayed during the festival and donated afterward.

  • Help install yarn bombing displays: Volunteer to help place items at approved locations before the festival begins.

  • Display items at an approved location: Local businesses and community partners may be able to host yarn bombing displays. Details and approved locations will be shared as plans are finalized.

  • Help collect items after the festival: Volunteers will be needed after the festival to remove, gather, and prepare items for washing and donation.

What to Make

Please donate warm, washable handmade items that can be used after the festival. Acrylic or other easy-care yarns are strongly recommended so items can be washed before donation.

Suggested Items

  • Scarves

  • Hats

  • Mittens

  • Small blankets

  • Warm slippers and/or socks

  • Other useful cold-weather items

Please use acrylic or other washable, easy-care yarns. Items should be clean, sturdy, and practical for cold weather.
